Re-elect Secretary of State Sam Reed

Voters Give Sam Reed Big Boost Toward Third Term as Secretary of State

Issued: August 20, 2008

OLYMPIA... Just minutes into election returns on Primary night, it was evident that with more than 58 percent of the vote statewide, and having won in all 39 counties, Secretary of State Sam Reed would move onto the General Election, putting him one step closer to his third term.

In his first two terms, Secretary Reed championed the most extensive election reform in 150 years, rescued history and critical records with the creation of the nation's first Digital Archives, and saved our state's oldest cultural institution, the Washington State Library.

"This level of voter support is very gratifying," Reed said. "Washington's voters clearly trust me to protect their voting rights and our new Top 2 Primary, and to get on with the other goals I've outlined."

Thanks to Reed, Washington is on track to deliver more personalized election information online to voters than ever before. Among Reed's other major goals for our state is the new Heritage Center, set to open its doors in 2012. The Heritage Center, a world-class facility and first endeavor of its kind on the West Coast, will house and make accessible Washington's critical records, historic collections, and rare books, and a learning center will engage students of all ages.

Reed's popular appeal was evident before the Primary as well, as large turnouts of supporters from throughout the state have filled his kickoff events and campaign coffers. He has also amassed strong bipartisan endorsements from some of the most well-respected organizations in the state (see a complete list at www.samreed.org).
