I'm excited about what we're going to be able to do in the next four years.
In an era when we lack civic education and people make decisions without knowledge of the past, we are pushing history to the forefront.
Picture a Washington that uses innovative technology to bring our history, heritage, and culture to life.
A Washington where every student is exposed to the context history provides.
This picture will become a reality when I open the doors to the Heritage Center, destined to be a timeless landmark, in 2012.
Picture a Washington that inspires every Washingtonian to become an informed – active -- citizen.
I will use every program in my office, the Washington State Library, the Washington State Archives, and the State Elections Division, to bring you the most comprehensive personal ballot information in the country.
Picture an election in which candidate statements can be seen on your computer and heard over your iPod… accessed through our statewide electronic voters' pamphlet.
Picture a Washington that will link your ballot measures to topical research books at the State Library.
Picture a Washington where access to such knowledge allows all citizens to make informed decisions at the ballot box.
I will also use my position and authority to bring a new level of government transparency and customer service to Washington.
Picture an office that assists small business men and women navigate the layers of bureaucracy when they choose to create a new corporation or LLC.
State government exists for the people -- and I'm going to do everything within my power to bring it back to the people.
I have more work to do – to restore our faith in your elections, to build trust in government, and to preserve our history. This is my mission. We will inform and empower the people of Washington from Blaine to Walla Walla -- from Colville to Seattle.
